BÄMÄ is a new feminist collective that blends pop, rap, and club music, consisting of artists Nelli Milan, Helena Routa, satu, and Tiia Karoliina. Their debut single, Kaiken takana on bämä, tackles misogyny in Finnish rap with a fresh, fun, and catchy approach. This debut single brought together a large group of artists, including Matriarkaatti, Aina, Malka, Eme, Sorry Babe, Emilia Ex, and Ida Alex. Kaiken takana on bämä reached both Spotify’s Top 50 in Finland and the official Finnish singles chart, earning the collective festival gigs and media exposure.
BÄMÄ represents something that has been long-awaited in the music industry; it paves the way and shakes up the male dominance and heteronormativity in rap culture, while challenging toxic phenomena and attitudes without forgetting to have fun.
On March 23, 2024, BÄMÄ released a provocative EP titled Jumala on muija. The EP highlights controversial themes such as religion and sex from the perspective of queer women. It features six tracks: four new songs and two previously released singles.
