Bee (Bertta Seppälä) has emerged as one of Finland’s most exciting new artists, climbing to the top of both radio charts and Spotify rankings. She combines dark pop and soul in her music, seamlessly tying everything together with her stunning and distinctive vocal sound. Bee’s debut album, Hupsis, was released in September 2023 and immediately shot to the top of Finland’s official chart in its first week. The Hupsis album has already streamed an impressive 40 million times, reaching double platinum status, with four of its eleven tracks achieving platinum certification and one earning gold. Additionally, the album’s fifth single, Viimeisiä sanoja, became the most-played song on Finland’s radio charts in December 2023. The album’s success was also recognized at the Emma Gala, where Bee received three nominations (Newcomer of the Year, Pop of the Year, and Public Vote). A highly anticipated vinyl version of the Hupsis album was also released.
Bee first captured the public’s attention with her third single, Tequilakahvi, released in 2022. The song remained on Spotify’s Top 50 chart for a total of 77 days and became Finland’s second most-streamed song. Bee, who was also named the winner of YleX Läpimurto (breakthrough) 2023, possesses a unique sound. With her music, she aims to lower the barrier for people to openly talk about their problems, while also providing an escape for listeners to enjoy themselves and dance.
“The songs on the Hupsis album are stories and experiences from life—life that’s full of ups and downs, good and bad moments. The album ended up with 11 tracks, some of which were created closer to the release, while others were written years ago, so the lyrics reflect different phases of life,” Bertta explains.
“Making the album has been both wonderful and challenging at times, especially when it came to the more personal songs. Blood, sweat, and tears have been shed, but now I can proudly release this amazing album. The overwhelming feeling is gratitude that these songs can finally be heard by others,” Bertta adds.
