Lost In Music – Festivaali

Sara Siipola

“Juostaan is my experience as someone close to an addict. I wanted the song to sound like an action movie, where you’re running away from the enemy—addiction.”

The single Juostaan featuring Sexmane streamed platinum in record time and topped NRJ’s Summer Hit poll.

Sara Siipola, who blends deep emotions and strong contrasts in her music, released the new single Juostaan in May, featuring one of Finland’s most popular artists, Sexmane. A music video for the song, directed by Niko Hirvimäki, has also been released.

Siipola’s previous single, Paskana, which was part of this year’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), became the biggest hit of her career. Paskana reached #1 on the radio charts, #2 on Spotify, and surpassed 8 million streams by May 2024, earning double platinum status.

With her powerful voice, Sara Siipola tackles difficult subjects in her lyrics. Her new single Juostaan is a deeply personal track:

Juostaan is my experience as someone close to an addict. Watching from the sidelines, you go through many phases. Trying to save them is one of them. Juostaan tells the story of that phase—when I would act, even if it were the last thing I did. I would save them, get them healthy, no matter the cost.

I believe I can give them life, a new beginning. Even though every glimmer of hope turns into another disappointment, I still believe. It’s easier than admitting that their recovery is ultimately out of my hands. And the hardest part is just letting go.

I wanted the song to sound like an action movie, where you’re running from the enemy, addiction.

I had long dreamed of a feature with Sexmane, and during UMK, I realized Juostaan was the perfect song for him. This is my first feature, and I’m thrilled to be doing it with Max,” Siipola shares.

Sara Siipola is currently working on her second album, set to release later this year, which will include the singles Paskana, Susta tulee tähti, and Uusi musta. Siipola was the most Googled Finnish female artist in 2023, and her participation in this year’s UMK has brought her to an even larger audience. She released her debut album Kaunis kun itken in 2021.
